day 20: light

SS1/20      f5.0      ISO1600

Today's topic was "light".  I was waiting all day for amazing light to serge through my windows so that I could really capture something beautiful, but to tell you the truth, it was a pretty yucky light day around here.  So after I got the kids in bed, I realized that I needed to do yet another night shot.  And I was pretty discouraged.

But, I actually love how these turned out.  Instead of trying to get the same type of shot I like getting in natural light, I've realized that I need to embrace the shadows and beauty that night light holds.  So, I found a great texture to add interest, and I experimented.    I tried some with flash, some without, along with tons of different aperture and shutter speed options, and I love that this shot captures so much debth with the shadows and patches of light filturing though.  I'm using the light from my kitchen (behind me) and have everything else turned off.

These are our stockings.  And I love them; they're soft, textural, and cost me $0.79 each.  Bliss I tell you.
