day 38: dirty windows

This is what my windows look like today.  A lot of people are probably totally disgusted.   But I'm going to tell you a secret...they've looked like this for weeks.  Not because I didn't know it was there, not because I was lazy, not because I was too busy with other things.  I left it there ON PURPOSE because it is beautiful to me, little hands pressed to windows marveling at the things they are seeing.

That hand print means that my kids were watching our birds in their nest, that they saw our leaves changing red and yellow and pink.  It means they asked me constantly why the leaves were falling and if we could go crunch in them.  Today, E helped me clean the windows and it almost made me cry wiping that hand print off.  I'm sure there will be more soon, in fact, all of my windows that are child height are covered with marks...but this one has captured my heart.

Windows are, of course, the preferred method of travel for all vehicles, dolls, and ponies alike at our home.  One cannot simply drive construction trucks on the carpet.  They must carry their load to the very end of the earth (or at least to the very end of their person's reach) before crashing to the window sill.  They must also pick up all dead flies found in the window tracks (note to self: really should clean those more often).
